Youth Art Science Mural Project
Kelp Forests: Making the Visible Invisible

Part 1: Participants will learn how oceanographers track ocean temperatures using different technologies, how kelp forests are affected by rising temperatures, impacts on local communities, and possible mitigation strategies.

Part 2: Participants will create a mural using temperature sensitive paint that turns invisible at the temperature that kelp generally begins to perish. A sign with messages of hope and solutions as well as how to interact with the art will be placed on the exterior of EMCS. Students will learn manual skills and understand the power of art as metaphor.
